5 Ways to stay motivated at the gym!

IF YOU’RE LIKE ME WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY YOU PROBABLY DREAMED OF FITTING INTO A SMALLER PAIR OF JEANS, RIPPED ABS, GETTING SUPER STRONG, OR FLYING THROUGH A MILE RUN! WELL IF YOU STAYED CONSISTENT WITH YOUR NUTRITION AND EXERCISE ROUTINE, YOU PROBABLY MANAGED TO ACCOMPLISH MOST OF THOSE GOALS! THESE DAYS, YOU DON’T SEE TOO MANY CHANGES IN YOUR PHYSIQUE AND IT’S BEEN MONTHS OR EVEN YEARS SINCE YOU PRD ANYTHING. WELL, THIS ARTICLE IS FOR YOU!

1. Add some variety
What has kept me engaged after 10 years is changing up my focus! At BearFitness we have a lot of programming options to keep fitness interesting. Never tried a dedicated strength program? Check out Barbell Club! Barbells starting to get repetitive? Ramp up your cardio with our SWEAT classes!

2. Try something new
Along the same lines, supplement your gym training with a fun fitness activity outside the gym, like mountain biking or joining a sports league. Not only is this a fun way to stay active, but the demands of a new physical activity can motivate you to work hard in the gym to be as fit as possible for your sport!

3. Set a goal
Be honest, it’s been awhile since you had a goal to work towards. This is CrossFit, there is ALWAYS something to work on. You’ve mastered push-ups, but can you climb the rope? Setting a goal and coming up with a step-by-step plan to achieve it is a great way to stay motivated. It feels good to cross off each step on the way to achieving your goal!

4. Be ok with not having a goal
Ok, I know we talk about goals A LOT here at Bear Fitness. But really, coming to the gym 3-5 days a week and working hard is an end unto itself. It is WORTH IT, even if you find yourself missing the drive to PR your back squat or go so hard on every workout you collapse into a puddle at the end. That doesn’t mean you come to the gym and leisurely walk through the workout. But–really–just coming and continuing to work hard on a regular basis with no particular goal except maintaining your fitness, is OKAY!! You know you feel better, mentally and physically when you come in and spend an hour taking care of yourself a few times a week. So make it your goal to just get here. We’ll take care of the rest, and you’ll be glad you did!

5. Lean on the community
We notice when you don’t show up. Your gym friends notice when you don’t show up. Half of the fun of coming to the gym is working out with your friends! So find a buddy and help each other be accountable to show up; get a group together for a burpee challenge; or meet up with a group outside the gym for a fun activity!

It can be tough to keep showing up when you feel like “all” you’re doing is maintaining your fitness. But the great thing about maintaining is–you’re already a badass! Hopefully, these 5 ways to stay motivated at the gym will help you to keep up the badassery while having fun and enjoying all the benefits of your fitness!
